New Zealand Clean Energy Centre
Antanas Procuta Architects are proud to announce that we have been successful in being selected to design the New Zealand Clean Energy Centre in Taupo.
The PRIME location of the Clean Energy Centre (at the hub of State Highway 5 and the proposed State Highway 1) signals the critical importance of Clean Energies, in particular biomass, bioenergy and geothermal to the central North Island.
The brief requested an iconic landmark building to showcase clean energy technologies and sustainable architecture. Our response developed the building as a working laboratory, actively expressing the function of the Clean Energy Centre. A central glazed atrium curves through the building forming an open and light display area for clean energy technologies with glulaminated timber fronds curving over to form an expansive space. Flexible office spaces with formal and informal meeting hubs encourage the cross fertilization of ideas in adjacent open plan offices.
The building will incorporate design features which ensure an exceptionally low energy use. We are collaborating with Aurecon (formerly Connell Wagner Consulting Engineers) who have extensive experience with the Green Star Building Programme.
Exemplary use of daylight, natural ventilation, energy efficient technologies along with low emission, sustainable and renewable materials – with a focus on timber use will create a comfortable and healthy building with a low environmental impact.
Demonstrable use of clean energy technologies:
1, Utilising locally sourced and processed materials
2, Ultra low energy use
3, Future-proofed to ensure long life and seamless operation
4, Onsite collection, processing and distribution of precious water resources.
